If you love spending time outdoors with everyone in the family – including your fur baby – then make plans to bring them on your next camping trip in your new or used RV! Did you know we sell pet-friendly RVs that have loads of features to make your doggo comfortable too? While you browse our selection, check out our RV tips for camping with pets below.
Visit the Vet Beforehand
Depending on your dog, they may or may not like car rides. If being in the car triggers anxiety or nausea, ask your vet for a recommendation on how to ease the nerves – including any mild medications. Also, if you haven’t had your dog microchipped, now’s the time. Microchipped pets are returned to their human companions at a much higher success rate than non-chipped animals. And in the unlikely event of an unfortunate separation, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Have Photos on Your Phone
Like most pet parents, you probably have loads of your fur baby on your phone. Make sure you have several good recent photos that are clear, front facing, and in good light. Make sure any special or distinct markings are also visible and take a few different angles of shots. This is something that can also help provide some identification if needed.
Abide By Campground Policies
Ask your campground for its pet policies beforehand if they’re not already listed online. And then abide by them. This goes for noise ordinances, leash policies, dealing with pet waste removal, and more. Campgrounds have the right to ask patrons to leave if they break the posted rules, and that includes the behavior of pets and their owners.
Take an honest, realistic look at your pup’s temperament. If they’re super vocally expressive with lots of barking and yapping and the campground has quiet time ordinances, you might want to find a different campground. If they’re not good around kids, stay clear of campsites located near playgrounds. You get the idea. Stay courteous so you can enjoy your stay.
Pack a Bag
Your doggo needs to be packed for, too! Make sure to bring the following essentials:
- Any meds they take regularly
- Leash
- Food & water dishes
- Waste removal bags
- A few of their favorite toys
- Pet first-aid kit (ask your vet what to include)
